Atmosphere: Beautiful
Service: Excellent
Taste: Good
This restaurant is located inside a natural cavern. There's a large open dining area and several smaller private tables off to the side for a more intimate setting. (Be sure to make reservations beforehand tho!) The location was beautiful, especially with all the attention to detail put into every little corner of the cavern.
(Small side note: while most hillside caves are usually cold, caverns tend to be warmer; especially this one which is only cooled and ventilated through a series of portable fans.)
Recommendations:
- After placing your order, go explore the cavern while you wait for your food to arrive. If you ask for wine they'll also take you to their wine cellar which is built into a corner of the cavern. -

Overrated
Overpriced
flavorless cheap ingredients: (venison tastes like shredded beef, "wild boar" tastes and feels like cheap chicken breast, king crab legs taste like they have rotted away in a storage freezer.
Food is barely edible at a price that should be a charity dinner for a presidential candidate.
The waiter lied to me and said there is no locals discount available. When I pressed the issue he said "yes there is 15% for locals , do you have and Id? " i showed him my permenant resident card and he said , no it needs to be the white card, the voter card .. sorry no discount for you . So I gave my best smile and said ok gracias. When the check came I tipped 0.00 with the same excitement and asked for a pen. I wrote 15% local discount = 15% propina . I'm pretty sure he collected his tip when I left.
Will never go back to this over priced terrible food market with con artist waiters
They welcome anyone with no reservation tho
Maybe you will enjoy it

The Alux is definitely an experience. The food was very good. I had the Alaskan King Crab. It was a large portion cooked to perfection, but the butter was lacking. Idk if it's a sweeter butter or maybe it wasn't butter. It actually smelled and tasted like movie popcorn butter which was disappointing.
But I tired my husband's Duck Confit and it was wonderful. I'd never had this dish before, but my husband has and he said it was better than what he has had in the past. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
The service is amazing of course. You are waited on by 2 of the staff. And there was very nice music as a guitarist and singer entertained us.
The drawback was twofold. First I've seen the Carlsbad Caverns like 8 times and I love them. So this cave wasn't quite impressive for me. But it was really interesting to realize that you are just underneath homes and businesses above you and to contemplate the logistics of that.
The next drawback was that it had rained a lot that day so our tables had to be moved to another part of the cave and the ventilation wasn't good. There wasn't much if any air conditioning in this area, so fans were pointed at each table to provide some circulation.
It was so muggy that our chips became almost soggy after approximately 30 minutes.
All in all a good experience. My husband rated it a 4 out of 5 for the uniqueness of the experience. Oh and it was my husband's birthday and the waiter gave him a cake with a sparkler atop and the entertainment sang happy birthday to him. That was really nice. -

I work in the hospitality industry and this was one of, if not the worst, dining experiences of my life. The food is a poor culinary representation of modern Mexican cuisine and mediocre to taste. The dishes are far overpriced--even for PDC. The service was practically non-existent. Unapologetically slow and absent in a half empty restaurant. This is a tourist trap if there ever was one. Want to eat in a hot and humid cave, wait 2.5 hours for your entrees, be ignored by staff and pay $150/person? Come here! But don't. This ruined one of our few nights on vacation. Absolute shame on this restaurant. Avoid like plague.
Full story: I went here for a group dinner (12 people) this past weekend. Reservation was for 9pm. Upon entrance, we were ushered all the way to the back of the restaurant, which is a long humid cave. We were seated with menus and left alone until 9:30 when it was finally time to take our drink and food order. After 30 minutes, at 10:00, our three bottles of wine still had not come, nor had any food. Wine comes after complaint. At 10:15, they brought out chips and salsa (1:15 into the meal). At 10:30, they brought out DINNER ROLLS (1:30 into the meal). At 10:45, after more complaints, they finally brought out our appetizers. At this point, we'd been sitting there for close to 2 hours and consumed very little food. No apologies from management or explanations. Entrees finally came at 11:30.
At the end, the bill came and not one dish or drink was removed from the bill or complimentary. After a short argument with our server, we decided to just pay the bill and get out of there as quickly as possible.

This place has a unique setting, located inside a cave offers a very different atmosphere, something some people may find cool. The menu is 100% Mexican food, extremely well presented since every dish tries to incorporate some nouvelle cuisine touch. However taste wise, I was a little disappointed, even though they try to do something top noch, they are not quite there. Food was just good, nothing out of the average. Service was very good and friendly.
